The shoe brands most worn at the Western States 100

Curious as to what shoe brands runners turned to the most during the Western States 100? Thanks to race organizers and Ultra Live, fans can nerd out to a variety of statistics that also include sock choice, diet and preferred hydration pack.

The Western States 100 is the world’s oldest 100-mile trail race, held annually in eastern California. The 2017 race began on June 24. The 100-mile (160K) event begins in Squaw Valley and ends in Auburn.

Below are a few statistics pulled from the Western States 100 survey.

Shoes worn by all runners

Hoka One One: 25 per cent
Altra: 23 per cent
Salomon: 11 per cent
Brooks: 10 per cent
Nike: 4 per cent
Saucony: 4 per cent
Others: 23 per cent

Other interesting statistics include Petzl being the most popular headlamp, used by 50 per cent of runners, Ultimate Direction and Salomon being the most popular hydration packs, each with approximately 25 per cent, and 76 per cent of runners saying they “don’t follow any diet.”

Of the 369 runners who took part in the Western States 100, 341 participated in the survey.
