SHOE REVIEW: Asics Gel-Nimbus 24

The Gel-Nimbus 24 features a new jacquard mesh and a gusseted tongue to make your run feel as comfortable as possible

The ASICS Gel-Nimbus line is known for its gel-based cushioning and being one of the softest training shoes on the market. ASICS has released their 24th iteration of the Nimbus, which stays true to its roots stringing back several decades. The Gel-Nimbus 24 features a new lighter and upgraded mesh upper and adds a new stability plate on the medial side of the midsole. The shoe is built for the long haul as it makes you feel like you are running on a cloud.

The upper

The Gel-Nimbus 24 upper was designed to make your run as comfortable as possible. The shoe now features an engineered jacquard mesh that is more breathable than the previous knit used on the 23. The mesh tends to flex well, which gives you more room in the toebox for later on in your runs. The new super stretchy gusseted tongue wraps your foot softly and remains in place during runs. The heel collar is well padded providing a secure and comfortable fit.

The midsole

The midsole on the Gel-Nimbus 24 is made up of a dual-density FlyteFoam Blast and Blast+. The top layer is the firmer Blast+ foam, then the traditional ASICS-Gel in the heel between the two foams.

The shoe is also designed with TRUSSTIC technology, a thermoplastic material that can be found under the arch of the shoe. The plastic material is there to increase stability on the medial side and offer support to the midfoot.

The outsole

The sole of the shoe is completely designed for durability and control. Made of ASICS-Lite AHAR+ rubber, the outsole increases the shoe’s durability and control no matter the conditions. The rubber is strategically placed in a pod-like design to provide full foot coverage for all runners and their foot strike.

The verdict

ASICS has once again stayed true to the roots of the Nimbus platform while also making incremental improvements that create an all-around more comfortable experience. The shoe is still the heavier daily trainer, but the new gusset tongue system allows for a better fit and creates a nice easy ride. The Gel-Nimbus 24 is built for mileage and is not an up-tempo shoe, lacking any sort of rocker. Expect this shoe to work great for easy or long runs and to last hundreds of kilometres. When I ran in this shoe, I noticed how plush each step felt and how the gusseted tongue provides next-level comfort.
