The Star Wars Half-Marathon – The Light Side at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif. got underway on Friday. Check out the appropriately-themed race swag.

Star Wars Half-Marathon

For the second consecutive week, runDisney is hosting one of its many world-famous events. At this particular race, don’t be surprised to hear the phrase, “may the force be with you.”

The Star Wars Half-Marathon – The Light Side race weekend is being held at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., one month after the much-anticipated release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Race weekend, which includes a half-marathon, 10K and 5K, is notable for its Star Wars-themed shirts and medals as well as its route through Disneyland Resort and the surrounding areas.

Race weekend got underway on Friday morning with the 5K before the 10K on Saturday and the half-marathon on Sunday. Completing both the Saturday and Sunday events, for a total of 31.1K, is known as the Rebel Challenge, similar to the popular Dopey Challenge from last weekend’s Walt Disney World race weekend. Plus, there are kids races for the young Jedis.

Prices range from US$330 for the Rebel Challenge to US$80 for the Star Wars 5K.

There are two main Star Wars events each year including this weekend’s Light Side, named in honour of the Jedi, and April’s Dark Side, named after the Empire. All three races during the Light Side festivities begin at 5:30 a.m. leaving plenty of time to explore the Disney parks following the races.

Last year, the half-marathon champion, Under Armour’s Nick Arciniaga, crossed the finish line with a lightsaber and pretended to cut the winner’s tape. Stay tuned for more photos from Disneyland as the Star Wars – The Light Side race weekend wraps up over the coming days.
