Thanksgiving Sunday in Kelowna, B.C. kicks off with Okanagan Marathon
Nearly 3,000 participants ran in the BMO Okanagan marathon, half-marathon and 10K on Sunday in beautiful Kelowna, B.C.
Sunday’s BMO Okanagan Marathon in Kelowna, B.C. had almost 3,000 participants across the 10K, half-marathon and marathon events. The 22nd annual race weekend attracted runners from across western Canada in an event that has become a fall staple and a great start to Thanksgiving Sunday.
The half-marathon attract more than 1,000 people on Sunday, according to timing company Sportstats, in the largest of the three events. It’s a busy weekend for racing in British Columbia as the BMO Okanagan Marathon, the Victoria Marathon and the Granville Turkey Trot in Vancouver are all held on Thanksgiving weekend.
Sunday was reserved for 10K, half-marathon and marathon runners and walkers. The 5K and kids run were held on Saturday.

Topping the field of 449 participants in the marathon was Ryan Prachnau, who ran 2:39:46 for the win. The top female finisher, Kari Elliott, finished second overall in an impressive 2:53:47.

In the half-marathon, Chris Stone took the race in 1:13:40. Shannon Dale was the top woman in 1:23:22.
