2017 Canadian Marathon Championships rundown
What you need to know from the 2017 Canadian Marathon Championships
Trevor Hofbauer and Leslie Sexton won their first 42.2K national titles on Sunday at the 2017 Canadian Marathon Championships.
Run as part of the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Hofbauer, who was making his marathon debut, ran 2:18:06, a four-minute gap over the second-place Canadian, Sami Jibril, in 2:22:04. Sexton ran with Lyndsay Tessier for much of the race and built a one-minute gap by the finish, clocking 2:35:47 for the win as Tessier set a massive PB in 2:36:55.
Conditions were clear on Sunday with temperatures hovering around 15 C. Hofbauer finished ninth overall in the fastest marathon ever in Canada with Kenyan Philemon Rono triumphing in 2:06:52. Sexton was fifth overall in a five-six-seven finish for Canadian women.
