Saturday’s Rum Runners Relay produced, according to local club the Halifax Road Hammers, the closest finish in the race’s history with only 13 seconds separating the top two teams after over 100K of racing.

The 10-stage relay between Halifax and Lunenburg, N.S. has been an annual event for more than 30 years dating back to 1985. On Saturday, the team of “A Few Good Men” beat out one of three Halifax Road Hammers teams for the victory in a close battle right to the end. The winning time was 6:27:41 for 110K.

A total of 70 teams took part in the sold-out event with registration opening almost a year in advance and through a lottery. The relay is held on the last Saturday of September each year.
