2017 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon medal revealed

One of Canada's most popular marathons unveiled its post-race swag on Thursday

Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon Medal

Entrants for the 2017 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon found out the end-of-race prize this week as the medal was unveiled for one of Canada’s most popular marathons.

The big-city marathon, scheduled for Oct. 22, 2017, features the Leuty Lifeguard station on its race medal. The station, which is said to have played a part in saving more than 6,000 lives, is “one of the last remainings structures south of the Beach boardwalk.” The station is located at Kew Beach in the Beaches neighbourhood of Toronto and was built in 1920.

Canadian marathoners Reid Coolsaet and Lanni Marchant were on hand to help with the Canada Running Series unveiling, appropriately held steps away from the Leuty Lifeguard station. The STWM course passes through the Beaches between the 32-33K marks of the race.

Following the race medal unveiling, which was held Thursday evening, runners headed to nearby Rorschach Brewery.

Those wanting to register for the event have until June 7 to enter at a reduced price before a fee increase. The 2017 event once again doubles as the Canadian Marathon Championships.
