While most local may have still been asleep, hundreds of runners took part in the Toronto Women’s 10K/5K on Saturday morning.

The event at Sunnybrook Park featured an out-and-back course on an ideal morning for road racing in the Ontario capital. The TO Women’s Run Series aims to “offer a racing season that motivates and inspires women to come set the pace.”

The Aug. 26 event was the second of three Toronto Women’s Run Series races. The third and final event of 2017 goes off Oct. 14, also at Sunnybrook Park. The October event features an 8K and a 5K to cap off the year. The series so far this year has raised more than $25,000 for the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario.

Sporting race bib number one, Sarah Elliott won the 10K in 36:33, 37 seconds clear of the field. Lauren King won the 5K 17:48 with a 78-second margin on second place. According to Sportstats, there were upwards of 750 participants who took part in the double-race event.
