North America’s oldest road race – older than the Boston Marathon – is the Around the Bay Road Race.

The 5K and 30K races went off Sunday in Hamilton and finished inside FirstOntario Centre. Around the Bay was first run in 1894, three years before the Boston Marathon.

The 30K circles Hamilton Harbour on a single-looped course. The final 10K of the race is rolling and notably includes the hill on Valley Inn Road.

Dayna Pidhoresky won the women’s 30K for the second consecutive year clocking 1:49:39 as Haron Kiptoo Sirma won the men’s race in 1:35:10. Ross Proudfoot (14:36) and Gladys Tarus (17:46) won the 5K. Proudfoot won the 5K in 2017 as well.
