2018 NB Chilly Half-Marathon and Frosty 5K roundup

Early-March race closes out the winter racing season for many in the southern Ontario region

Chilly Half-Marathon

A southern Ontario runner-favourite, the NB Chilly Half-Marathon and Frosty 5K, went off Sunday in what was one of the final road races of the winter in the area.

The flat and fast 5K and half-marathon courses start and finish at (or near, for the 5K) Burlington City Hall. Conditions were sunny and temperatures around 0-3 C at the time of start, just after 10 a.m. local time. Sunday’s race was sold out.

Olympians Reid Coolsaet and Krista DuChene won the half-marathon in 1:05:16 and 1:16:09. Phil Parrot-Migas and Rachel Hannah won the Frosty 5K in 15:00 and 17:20.

Highlights of the event include post-race Stagg Chili, Steam Whistle beer and a New Balance Quarter-Zip Technical Top. An estimated 3,600 runners raced the half-marathon and 5K on Sunday morning, according to MPP for Burlington Eleanor McMahon.
