Cam Levins and Sasha Gollish top among Canadians

IAAF World Half-Marathon Championships

The 2018 IAAF World Half-Marathon Championships were Saturday.

Both Cam Levins and Sasha Gollish posted the top overall finishes by a Canadian placing 30th in the men’s and women’s races. Levins clocked 1:02:15, a personal best, as Gollish led the Canadian women’s contingent, running her fastest time of the year in 1:11:52.

This year’s championships, held biannually, were in Valencia, Spain.

The world champions for 2018 are Geoffrey Kamworor and Netsanet Gudeta, who set a women’s-only world record of 1:06:11. Thanks to a tailwind, Kamworor ran a sensational 13:01 5K between the 15-20K marks of the race, blowing the race open, to win his third IAAF World Half-Marathon Championships title in 1:00:02.
