A jaw-dropping number of runners applied for the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon lottery.
A record-breaking 105,000 hopefuls entered their name into the pool to be selected for registration for the world’s largest marathon. According to the NYRR, the organizers of the marathon, 15,500 people will be selected through the Feb. 28 drawing. The drawing is for non-guaranteed entrants; runners can also enter through a guaranteed method, detailed here.
The record number of lottery entrants marks a 34 per cent increase since 2014 and a seven per cent uptick from 2017. The famous marathon is a point-to-point race which begins on Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and ends in Central Park.
The 2018 New York City Marathon, which is expected to feature more than 50,000 finishers on race day, takes place Nov. 4.
