Allie Kieffer is running Around the Bay

The 2018 New York 7th place finisher is coming to Hamilton

Allie Kieffer announced her 2019 spring racing schedule on Instagram over the weekend and it includes Around the Bay. The Hamilton 30K race runs on March 31 and draws huge crowds of people looking to try their hand at an event slightly shorter than a marathon.

Kieffer finished seventh at the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon in a personal best of 2:28:12, and was the fourth American woman across the line. This won’t be the first time we see Kieffer in Canada–she won the 2018 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront half-marathon in 1:12:44.

Kieffer made a name for herself when she was the second American woman to cross the finish line at the 2017 New York City Marathon in what was one of the most competitive fields in history, with Kieffer placing just back of Olympic and IAAF World Championships medallists, World Marathon Majors champions and a world record-holder.

Around the Bay has taken place since 1894, making it technically older than Boston. The event draws a strong contingent of Canadian elites like Reid Coolsaet and Krista DuChene. The addition of Keiffer could jeopardize the women’s course record, held by Lanni Marchant at 1:44:40.

Kieffer’s full spring schedule is:

  • Pacific Pursuit 10K February 17, Atlanta
  •  Road to Gold: An Atlanta 2020 Test Event March 2, Atlanta
  • Around The Bay 30K March 31, Ontario
  • London Marathon April 28, UK
