This is his second win in less than a week

One month ahead of the Olympic Games, Canada’s Andre De Grasse stormed to another definitive win in the 200m at the Gyulai István Memorial on Tuesday in Budapest, Hungary. Running a quick 19.97 seconds on Tuesday, he crossed the line ahead of American sprinters Kenny Bednarek and  Erriyon Knighton, who ran 19.99 and 20.03, respectively.

This is De Grasse’s second win in less than a week, after he won the 200m at the Diamond League meet in Oslo, Norway on Thursday. Toronto’s Aaron Brown missed the podium by a couple of spots, finishing in 5th in 20.14, while Jerome Blake of Burnaby, B.C., finished in 8th in 20.65.

Brandon McBride of Windsor, Ont. also had a strong race, finishing 4th in the 800m in 1:45.51. This was his first race since September 2019 at the world championships semifinals in Doha, Qatar. McBride is hoping to fit one more race in before heading to Tokyo, where his goal is to make it to the final and get on the podium.

“What I really want is to step off the track after the [Olympic final] knowing I executed my race plan to the max and ran the best I possibly could run,” he said in a post-race interview with CBC News. “If I do, I’ll hold my head high. I did not feel like that stepping off the track in Doha.”
