Beermile who’s who: John Markell

John Markell is off to compete in the Beermile World Classic this weekend in San Francisco. Markell, another veteran of the Queen’s University running scene, was part of the creation of the “Kingston Rules.”

My beer mile nickname is: Sparkle

My pump up song is: “In Bloom” – Nirvana

My favourite beer is: Bud (for beer miles); Pliny the Elder (for all else)

My favourite workout is: Something for cross-country running

My running hero is: Haile Gebrsellassie (amazing runner with great work ethic and life balance!)

If I could only run one route for the rest of my life it would be: Golden Gate Park. It never looks the same to me.

What’s harder than a beer mile: Giving birth, I would imagine.
