Calgary runner repeats silver-medal finish in B.A.A. Mile
Aaron Ahl led an elite Canadian contingent in Saturday's B.A.A. Invitational Mile and Boston 5K events, kicking off a thrilling weekend of racing

Boston’s race weekend got off to a hot start on Saturday morning–and that’s not even considering the humid, 24 C weather. Elite Canadian runners packed the leaderboards for the men’s and women’s B.A.A. Invitational Mile and Boston 5K events, with Calgary’s Aaron Ahl leading the charge.
The 26-year-old came heartbreakingly close to victory in the mile, but for the second straight year, was edged out by American athlete Casey Comber.

The two events coursed through Boston’s Back Bay neighbourhood, with more than 100 pro runners competing from around the globe.
Men’s mile
The mile made for a very tight finish, with Comber, Ahl and Australian bronze medallist Mick Stanovsek all clocking 4:07. Comber’s victory marks the first back-to-back win in the event since 2014. Further down the field, Kitchener, Ont.’s Foster Malleck impressed in his professional and road mile debut, placing seventh in 4:10–just a day after signing with Under Armour Baltimore.

Women’s mile
Lucknow, Ont.’s Julie-Anne Staehli delivered an outstanding fourth-place finish, clocking 4:45. The 31-year-old appears to be thriving since beginning her new role as athlete service co-ordinator for Queen’s University; she’s fresh off a win at Toronto’s Beneva Spring Run-Off 8K in early April. Ottawa’s Erin Teschuk also had a strong run, taking 10th in 4:51.
The race’s top three finishers were Kenya’s Dorcas Ewoi (4:43) and U.S. runners Laurie Barton (4:44) and Kate Mitchell (4:45).
