Once upon a time I felt the only good 10K time for ME was sub 40 mins. I started a game when I was 39 that seemed like it would get easier and easier as I aged. Or so I thought. "JUST" run my age in the 10K or better was all I had to do. Of course runners in their 30s or early 40s have no idea what's coming. You will slow, even working hard, you will slow. Today I ran a 48 min 10K. I certainly wasn't racing it but that's only because I can't. If I were healthy enough, fit enough and not in pain, I would happily race hard. I decided if I couldn't win it in my finish place that I would win it in spirit. I high fived every single person I could on the return. And a funny thing happened. I got a lot faster in my second half. It's weird but as soon as I try to help others I help myself. I had fun. I really enjoyed today's race. And I ran my age (VICTORY). My advice is that if running isn't fun or it suddenly hurts. Slow your roll but start encouraging everyone around you. Get them going. Tell them to come with you (they often will and just need a bit of encouragement). I love running, even when I don't. See you at Epic soon. #advice #listentome #cheerleader #encouragement #shareyourjoy #epiccanadian #epiccanadianrace #epic2019 #werundartmouth
