Rachel Hannah was the lone Canadian elite in the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) 5K on Saturday morning, the opening event of Boston Marathon weekend. Unofficially, Hannah finished in 16th in 16:45

The race regularly attracts some of the world’s top distance runners. American Molly Huddle took the women’s crown in 15:14, 14 seconds clear Buze Diriba and the rest of the field.

Ethiopian Dejen Gebremeskel, the 2012 Olympic silver medallist in the 5,000m, won the men’s event in a blistering 13:39. American Ben True finished in second, two seconds behind Gebremeskel. Both True and Huddle were local crowd pleasers as the lone U.S. athletes to finish in the top-three on Saturday.

Huddle defended her title from 2015 while True narrowly missed defending his B.A.A. 5K victory from one year ago.

The B.A.A. is the host organization of the Boston Marathon and held the inaugural 5K event in 2009.
