Halifax becomes first Canadian city to start ‘Finisher shirt Friday’
Halifax has become the first city to make an official "Finisher shirt Friday." What's your favourite race shirt you've earned?
Halifax mayor, Mike Savage, officially declared Friday July 8th to be ‘Finisher Shirt Friday.’ In doing so, he encourages all race finishers to wear their shirts with pride to celebrate their own personal accomplishments, that of others as well as the local running community.

The announcement by the mayor and move by the Halifax Regional Council in conjunction with Run Nova Scotia is the first of its kind in Canada and could spark some friendly competition and bragging rights among runners, event organizers and even cities and provinces.
For example, who are Canada’s most active, engaged and proud apparel-wearing participants? Which event (city and province) offers the best finisher’s shirt? Which race shirt is your favourite, and why?
Race shirts have become a staple of most running events and races and are usually included as part of one’s registration. They are sometimes the subject of great debate and discussion with event participants often raving (or ranting) about the quality, colour and design of the official race shirt.
Some consider it taboo or a faux pas to wear the event shirt before finishing the race while others use it as an easy and convenient option for use during the event itself.  Needless to say that most runners have a favourite finishers shirt or one that means something special to them.
Congratulations to the city of Halifax and all Haligonians for your exciting announcement and we encourage all Canadians to take up the challenge and wear your race finishers shirts with pride on July 8th.
