The Blue Nose Marathon is staying true to its name after the race medal was revealed last week. The May 20-22 event in Halifax is one of the more popular races on the Maritimes race calendar.

Along with the infamous blue-nosed runner as the focal point, the lanyard of the medal is printed with the words “just giv’er,” welcome encouragement during race weekend. The marathon is on Sunday May 22 along with the 10K and half-marathon. The 5K falls on Saturday while the race expo opens this Friday (May 20).

The marathon is Boston certified so runners looking to qualify for the 2017 Boston Marathon may choose Blue Nose as a fast option in an attempt to book their ticket to the historic race, which takes place annually in April. The Blue Nose Marathon will be two loops of the half-marathon course, a change from previous years.

The race formerly went through nearby Dartmouth, just across the water from Halifax, but repairs on the connecting bridge are ongoing.

Canadian Running will be at the Nova Scotia race this year tweeting, posting to Facebook and snapping photos for Instagram.

The Blue Nose race socks are just as appropriate (and awesome) as the race medal.

Last year’s Blue Nose race weekend had a special guest as two-time world marathon champion Abel Kirui won the half-marathon. The Kenyan won the marathon at the world championships in 2009 and 2011 and ran a scorching 1:04:03 to win last year’s race.
