RaceGuide’s ‘Race of the Week’: Steveston Ice Breaker 8K

From the Canadian Race Guide, your complete resource for information and insight on running events from coast to coast, we present our ‘Race of the Week.’

Steveston_IceBreaker_8kOrganized by the Kajaks Track and Field Club, the Steveston 8K Ice Breaker Road Race takes place in the southwest district of Richmond, B.C. and attracts a small but committed field of recreational and amateur athletes.

Runners gather at the Steveston Community Centre for last minute registration and kit pick-up before the 8:30 a.m. start.

The race begins by the riverfront at the bottom of No. 1 Road and Bayview. The flat and fast course follows alongside the  Steveston Harbour and near the Fraser River providing scenic views before looping back through the city and to the finish.

After the race, participants can check their results and enjoy warm and cold beverages including coffee, hot chocolate, Happy Water and Muscle Milk. There is also an abundance of food including soups, chocolate, pizza, fruit, pastries, donuts and cookies.

A presentation of awards soon follows which includes gift certificates to top finishers and medals to age-category finishers. There are also a number of draw prizes that anyone can win.

The event serves at the first race of the Lower Mainland Road Race Series and is the second event in the Timex BC Road Race Series. It is fully sanctioned by BC Road Running, a division of BC Athletics.

RaceGuide is also online as well as available as a free-to-download and easy to use mobile app for iOS and Android. Use RaceGuide to plan and prepare as well as rate and review your own running and racing experiences.
