RaceGuide’s featured events: August 15-16

We’re already halfway through the month of August and the number of running events and races continue to increase. This week’s featured events include a popular Vancouver Half, the only marathon in the Northwest Territories, a classic 10K in Halifax and the oldest event in Prince Edward Island.

Profile: This lululemon sponsored event is a race, a yoga retreat and a party all in one. The stunningly scenic course around downtown Vancouver, out to Kitsilano and around the picturesque Stanley Park has something for everyone. In addition to the fun and festive race, participants can expect lots of yoga, the post-race Sunset Festival and an exclusive pair of lululemon shorts and swag.

kensington harvest runSaturday August 15th: Kensington Harvest Festival Run, Stanchel, P.E.I.

Historic

Profile: An event that will celebrate its 42nd running this year, the Kensington Harvest Festival Run is a 25K race that starts in neighbouring Stanchel and takes participants along rolling hills and scenic countryside to the village of Kinkora, then passes beautiful Scales Pond to Freetown before the finish at the Community Gardens in Kensington. There is a social, awards and prizes at the finish.

yellowknife marathonSunday August 16th: Yellowknife Marathon, N.W.T.

Destination Race

Profile: The Yellowstone Marathon is the only event of its kind to occur in the Northwest Territories and takes place in mid-August when conditions are most favourable. The course covers a large section of the city and its surrounding countryside and features panoramic views of the majestic northern landscapes. A half-marathon and 10K are also offered. Participants enjoy exceptional organization and a welcoming and friendly atmosphere with all the typical amenities expected.

halifax illustrationSunday August 16th: Navy 10K, Halifax, N.S.

Certified, Historic

Profile: A Halifax tradition since 1986, the Navy 10K is focused on the spirit of competition and the esprit de corps. The course is flat and fast and begins at the Maritime Command Museum entrance at CFB Halifax on Gottingen Street. A 5K race is also offered. All participants receive a dry-fit shirt as part of their race kit and there are category awards, refreshments and a continental breakfast following the races.
