RaceGuide’s Featured Runs and Races, June 20-21

Summer officially starts on Sunday which generally signals the end of the endurance (i.e. marathon) season and the start of speed season, meaning lots of 5 and 10Ks. However, this week’s featured events just happen to all include marathons.

Profile: A small town event that offers big city experience and also happens to be celebrating 40 years running in 2015. Participants in all races enjoy top-notch organization to match the enthusiastic crowds. Race courses consists of a single 10K loop that participants repeat several times based on their chosen distance. The route is on paved roads and trails and described as flat with a few rolling hills and one short, steep incline. The finish is described as second to none and some say it draws a comparison to Boston. There is a pre-race carb dinner, continental breakfast and post-race luncheon and awards.

Manitoba Marathon 2009.Sunday, June 21st: Manitoba Marathon, Winnipeg, Man.

Profile: The largest running event in the province is the ever-popular and historic (37 years) Manitoba Marathon. Along with a half-marathon, relay and 10K races, the courses provide a flat and fast scenic tour of Winnipeg including the city’s residential parks and neighbourhoods. All events start and finish at the University of Manitoba campus including a memorable finish on the University Stadium track. Along the way, participants enjoy excellent aid-stations, crowd support and on-course entertainment. The event also includes excellent race amenities throughout the event, making it an all-round high quality and memorable experience.

Profile: Banff is among Canada’s most beautiful and unique destinations which last year hosted its inaugural marathon, an event that sold out and garnered rave reviews. Participants begin from Banff Central Park and follow a course that passes crystal clear lakes and rivers, past stunning mountain vistas, along the Bow Valley Parkway and loops around to finish in beautiful downtown Banff. All participants enjoy premium pre- and post-race amenities and exceptional organization making for an unforgettable experience.
