The BMO St. Patrick’s Day 5K in Vancouver has quickly become one of the fastest 5K road races in the country. This year’s event is set to take place on Saturday March 14 and is already boasting a fast field of regional, national and international competitors.

For those particularly fleet of foot, there is now even more incentive to run fast.

This year the event will offer bonus money for anyone who can break a Canadian soil record, which are the fastest 5K times ever run on the road in Canada. Currently the records stand at 14:06 for men (Wesley Korir, 2012) and 15:48 for women (Malindi Elmore, 2012).

Fittingly, the prize money being offered for breaking the record will be $1,406 for men and $1,548 for women.

On top of the soil records, the event also offers a course record bonus of $250 which is currently held by Geoff Martinson (14:24) and Rachel Clif (16:15) both set in last year’s edition of the race.

There is also a $150 bonus to the male and female who reach the one mile mark of the race first, granted they then complete the race and are within one minute of the winning time.
