Top Canadian results from the 2017 California International Marathon

The point-to-point net downhill course that finishes in Sacramento, Calif. is prime for fast marathon times

California International Marathon

The California International Marathon, though not an Abbott World Marathon Major, is a popular destination race for Canadians. The point-to-point marathon begins in Folsom, Calif. and finishes in Sacramento, the state capital. Like the Boston Marathon, many runners take school buses to the starting line on race day.

The CIM is particularly famous for being a fast course with a gently rolling, point-to-point, net downhill profile. The CIM starts at 111m elevation and finishes just above sea level. This year’s event, which went off on Sunday morning, doubled as the 2017 United States Marathon Championships.

Allison Drynan and Anthony Larouche were the top Canadians overall finishing 57th and 69th in the women’s and men’s fields, respectively. The top-three Canadian women broke three hours and the top-three Canadian men broke 2:30.

In case you missed it, the Halifax Road Hammers took over our Instagram page for the weekend, and gave an inside look at the race from behind the scenes.
