Canadians to watch at the Sunset Tour Sacramento

Lindsey Butterworth, Natalia Hawthorn and Melissa Bishop-Nriagu will be among the Canadians racing in the first of the Sound Running three-meet Sunset series

The summer track season continues this weekend with the Sound Running Sunset Tour in Sacramento, Calif., and several Canadians will be taking to the track to test their fitness. This is the first of the three-meet series, which will feature a men’s and women’s 800m and 1,500m, as well as a men’s 5,000m.

Lindsey Butterworth, Natalia Hawthorn and Melissa Bishop-Nriagu will be first on the track in the women’s 800m. All three women have been named to the Canadian Olympic team, Butterworth and Bishop-Nriagu in the 800m and Hawthorn in the 1,500m, so this race will be a good tune-up for the women before they head to Tokyo.

2019 Canadian 1,500m champion and Pan Am Games bronze medallist Will Paulson will race both the men’s 800m and the 1,500m. Paulson came agonizingly close to the Olympic standard for the 1,500m back in May at the Portland Track Festival, running 3:35.42, just 0.42 seconds off the mark. He was not selected to team Canada for Toyko this year, but will no doubt be looking to improve on that performance and clock another fast time. Sasha Gollish will be lining up next to other notable athletes like Emily Infeld and Sara Vaughn in the women’s 1,500m.

The meet will start at 7:20 p.m. local time for Canadians living on the west coast, which means fans living in the eastern part of the country will have to wait until 10:20 p.m. ET to catch the action. If you want to watch the meet live, you will need a Flotrack subscription, or you can keep up with the results here.
