Caroline Pomerleau wins Quebec City 5K at 20 weeks pregnant
The reigning Canadian marathon champion held her baby bump as she broke the tape in Quebec City on Saturday

There’s no stopping Quebec’s Caroline Pomerleau–even at 20 weeks pregnant. At the Quebec City Marathon event on Saturday, the 29-year-old took gold in the 5K, crossing the finish line in 19:34 while holding her growing belly. A mere hour later, Pomerleau clocked 38:33 in the 10K to finish as runner-up to Ottawa’s Salome Nyirarukundo (34:39).

The 5K marked Pomerleau’s second consecutive gold in a Quebec City Marathon event. Last year, she won the half-marathon, clocking 1:18.41. Now, well into her first pregnancy, the Hoka athlete continues to flaunt her well-preserved fitness.
Pomerleau first began turning heads after taking a surprise third place at last year’s Canadian 10K championships, before going on to win the 2023 Canadian marathon title at her debut in Toronto–running 2:34:44. She was also selected to represent Canada at the NACAC Half-Marathon Championships in Cuba in April 2023, but the competition was cancelled.

The Quebec City Marathon event held five races: the 10K, 5K and 2K youth race on Saturday, and the marathon and half-marathon on Sunday. The scenic 42.2-km course began in Old Quebec and traversed the edge of the St. Lawrence River, before looping back to trace the St. Charles River on the way back to the start.
