YouTube star Casey Neistat takes on 2017 Airbnb Brooklyn Half

American filmmaker Casey Neistat goes sub-1:25 at the 2017 Airbnb Brooklyn Half on Saturday finishing amongst a handful of other celebrities

With more than 7 million subscribers on YouTube, filmmaker Casey Neistat is one of the more popular figures on the online video sharing platform. Among those videos are a number centered around his passion for running.

On Saturday, the 36-year-old put his fitness to the test running the 2017 Airbnb Brooklyn Half in what was the largest half-marathon in the United States in 2017. There were 27,440 finishers, according to the results page, in what is one of the New York Road Runners’ most popular events. The NYRR notably puts on the New York City Marathon among other NYC-based races.

On Saturday, Neistat ran 1:24:15 with fairly even splits according to his Strava account. (Neistat regularly posts his training to Strava, a social media platform for runners, cyclists and a variety of other athletes.) “Fantastic race today,” Neistat wrote on Strava and Twitter to his large fan base.

The 2017 Airbnb Brooklyn Half sold out in a rather-incredible 26 minutes early this year. The race features a point-to-point course beginning in near the Brooklyn Museum and finishes on the boardwalk at world-famous Coney Island.

Neistat has been making YouTube videos for years but gained considerable popularity once he began vlogging, otherwise known as video blogs. He posted about picking up his race number and chatted briefly about his race in a recent video, which has 1.2 million views as of Sunday morning, he uploaded to YouTube.

There were a number of other notable names racing the 2017 Airbnb Brooklyn Half including former NFL running back Tiki Barber, model Candice Huffine and Catfish host Nev Schulman, whom Neistat took a selfie with after the race.
