Damian Warner broke his own Canadian record Sunday at Gotzis and set the World Leading score for the decathlon. Gotzis is a combined-events meet that takes place in Austria. Warner has now won the meet four times.

Decathletes compete in a total of ten events over the course of two days, and are scored based on the result from their individual events. The winner is the athlete who accrues the most points.
Warner’s previous Canadian record was 8,695 that he set in Beijing at the 2015 World Championships. He eclipsed his previous record in his performance yesterday where he scored 8,028. Warner capped off the meet, finishing the 1,500m in 4:26.59.

Warner reportedly struggled with ankle problems in the weeks leading up to Gotzis, but he credits his team with helping him get through the competition.
