A dead musician and superhero were among the winners of various weekend running events

The winner of this year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon was Elvis… of course.
Mike Wardian was the first marathon finisher among nearly 30,000 participants in yesterday’s event, which also included a half-marathon. He finished in 2:38:04 while casually dressed as rock and roll icon Elvis Presley. In doing so, Wardian set a new Guinness World Record for fastest marathon dressed as Elvis. He bested the old mark of 2:42:52 set by Ian Sharman back in 2009.
A three-time U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier, Wardian recently made headlines for setting a record for the fastest average time (2:31:09) running all six World Major Marathons in a single calendar year. Just one week earlier, he ran the New York City Marathon in 2:33:18.

Chelsey Leighton of Idaho was the winner of the women’s race running 1:03:35
A record was also set in the half-marathon race which saw Kenyan William Kibor run a new event record in 1:01:21, beating the old mark of 1:01:40. Another Kenyan, Elvin Kibet was the women’s race winner in a time of 1:15:32.

Not to be outdone, Spiderman was the first to finish the Run Disney Avengers Super Heroes Half-Marathon in Anaheim, Cali. on Sunday.
Nicholas Arciniaga of Flagstaff, Ariz. was the first finisher to cross the line in 1:09:28. He did so while donning a superman costume. The effort will count as a Guinness World Record giving the runner another reason to celebrate.
Arciniaga was just one of many who opted for a more powerful outfit to run in.

Things were a bit more quiet on the road racing front here in Canada over the weekend, however Olympic race walker Evan Dunfee notably ran and won the Fall Classic Run in Vancouver.
