Eliud Kipchoge announced his official return to the Berlin Marathon Monday morning.

The Olympic champion will line up with 42,000 other runners with hopes of setting a new personal best in Berlin. His current fastest time of 2:03.05 from the 2016 Virgin Money London Marathon where he was the winner.

Kipchoge has reportedly said that his preparation is entirely focused on the September race. He has already run close to the 2:00 minute barrier during the Nike Breaking 2 project of 2017, where he ran 2:00.25. That time doesn’t count as his official personal best, as it was not an eligible course.

Berlin is touted as one of the fastest marathon courses in the world, and it is where Dennis Kipruto Kimetto of Kenya set the current world record of 2:02.57 in 2014.

Other notable entries for the race are former marathon world record holder Wilson Kipsang and current half-marathon world record holder Zersenay Tadese

Kipchoge posted on Twitter, saying, “Berlin is a special race for me and a marathon that I love. Every edition I have run faster than the edition before. What will I do this year? We will see you in September.”
