Saturday November 3rd is OFSAA cross-country – one of the largest high school cross-country races in North America.
The Ontario high school championships (OFSAA) feature races including midget (Grade 9), junior (Grade 10) and senior (Grade 11 and up). This year’s championships, which athletes qualify for either as individuals or as part of a team at the regional level, are being held at the Christie Lake Conservation Area in Dundas, Ont. just outside of Hamilton.
Boys and girls race the same distances at the high school level in Ontario. Midgets race 4K, juniors 5K and seniors 6K.
Cameron Ormond, the 2017 senior women’s champion is back for the 2018 race. Ormond has won every OFSAA cross-country race for the past three years, and is hoping to make it four in a row. The 2017 men’s winner Thomas Witkowicz has graduated and moved on to Syracuse University, opening the title to someone new.
