Everything you need to know about the Under Armour Eastside 10K

Elite fields, start times and post-race party at the upcoming Eastside 10K

This Saturday is the 2019 Under Armour Eastside 10K in Vancouver. The race showcases Vancouver’s most scenic views and draws a killer elite crowd. This year, Sarah Inglis who’s the Canadian all-comers 5K record holder, will lead the charge for the women.

Another woman to watch is 2019 Canadian half-marathon champion Malindi Elmore, who will be taking a run at Olympic standard and an automatic spot on the team at the upcoming Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. Kinsey Middleton, the 2018 Canadian marathon champion, who is also racing the 2019 Canadian marathon championships, will be racing on Saturday. Both Elmore and Middleton are likely using the event as a test of fitness ahead of their marathons in five weeks’ time.

The women’s elite field also has an elementary school student, Sidney Swierenga of Vancouver. Swierenga took the win in the women’s race at the Summerfast 10K in Vancouver in late July. The 12-year-old runner held 3:41 per kilometre over the 10K race to take the title in 36:52.

In the men’s race, returning champion Trevor Hofbauer will be coming back to defend his title. Evan Esselink is coming off a strong performance at the 2019 Edmonton 10K, where he finished second to Edmonton’s Leonard Chesoo.

Esselink ran the fourth-fastest half-marathon time ever by a Canadian (1:02:17) at the Houston Half-Marathon this winter. The only men to go faster are Canadian marathon record-holder Cam Levins, Canadian half-marathon record-holder Jeff Schiebler and Simon Bairu. That’s keeping pretty good company. Esselink is making his marathon debut in October at STWM.
