American Galen Rupp will run the 2017 Boston Marathon.

The Rio Olympic bronze medallist in the men’s marathon and 2012 Olympic 10,000m silver medallist was announced as part of the American elite field for Boston on Wednesday. The historic race, which will be Rupp’s third attempt at the distance, is set for April 17, 2017. His personal best is 2:10:05 from Rio.

The 30-year-old holds four American records: The indoor 3,000m, 5,000m, and two-mile, and the outdoor 10,000m. Rupp ran his first marathon at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, winning the event in 2:11:13. A force in the 10,000m, Rupp has won the national championship in that event every year since 2009 including an emphatic celebration after his 2016 victory. (Click here to see video.)

Our long time partners at John Hancock Financial have done a magnificent job in assembling these top Americans, all of whom we look forward to welcoming in April.”
