Describe yourself: I am John W. Mason. Construction business owner, beef farmer and runner.

Most notable running/racing experience: I completed Fluorspar Run in Kenya in 2016, a 21K uphill training run. (Editor’s note: The Fluorspar Run is known as “a rite of passage” for runners in Iten, a hotbed for distance runners.)

How has your training gone? *Touches wood.* My body has handled this build up very well. My summer lead up was not great but we slowly built the mileage and intensity up and I feel very good as we are heading into the week of the race

Why STWM? I like racing the Canadian Championships. I feel as though it is the only way to build the depth and strength of our sport in this country. We seem to have a lot of great potential with young guys debuting/consistently running 2:20-2:25. I think it would be tremendous to get them all on the line working together, pushing each other. I want to be one of those guys!

Goals for the race? I would like to PB on Oct. 22.

What gear will you be sporting for the race? I have a pair of Nike Streaks that I found at the clearance outlet last December, black shorts and the Speed River singlet.
