Friday’s Northeast Regional Championship was held in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. Knight is one of the favourites to win the national championships though he will be in tough with the likes of Oregon’s Edward Cheserek. Simon Bairu is the last Canadian to have won the NCAA Division One Championships on the men’s side.

“Trust the process,” Knight tweeted accompanied by a photo of him and his team.

According to a team source, the Syracuse Orange will leave for Indiana on Wednesday. Syracuse, who was led by Knight in 2015, are the defending national cross-country champions for the top-tier of American universities.

It’s the fourth consecutive year that Syracuse has won the Northeast Regional Championships and sixth time since 2009.

A number of top developing athletes from Canada attend American-based universities. Other notables who placed well at regional meets include London, Ont.’s Charlotte Prouse of Washington finishing tenth in the West Regional Championships.
