Tuohy ran 16:52.97 taking the former record down by a whopping 53 seconds. The former record was held by Stanford alumnus Aisling Cuffe. Tuohy was 97 seconds ahead of second place on Saturday.

This run comes three weeks removed from her performance in Rhode Island where she set what is believed to be the American national high school girls cross-country record running 16:06.87 for 5K, which is the standard distance for her age group. She was named the USATF athlete of the week following her performance in Rhode Island.

The grade 11 student’s amazing cross-country season follows equally dominant indoor and outdoor track seasons. Tuohy ran an indoor national record for her age division in the 5,000m finishing in 15:37.12. Outdoors, the runner also ran a 3,200m high school national record finishing in 9:47.88.

Tuohy won the Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year award for 2017-2018 and the high school runner is showing no signs of slowing down. Tuohy is the first-ever winner of Gatorade national honours in two separate sports, in her case, track and field and cross-country.
