500 kids run Mud Run in Ontario

KidsMudRunThis past Saturday May 9, Adventure Running Kids, a non profit organization dedicated to getting kids outdoors and active, held the fifth annual Mud Run in Burlington, Ont.

KidsMud3The Mud Run attracted over 500 kids, aged 4-14, who participated in the 1K, 2K, and 3K races. The races took place on a 2-loop course that weaved on and off trails, through streams and most importantly, through natural pits of mud. Adventure Running Kids used the property of a local business, which boasts a beautiful forest with great terrain for trail running.

2015 also marked the fifth year that FAB (Fit Active Beautiful), a charitable foundation out of Hamilton, has come out in support of the Mud Run. FAB uses running to help build confidence and reach out to girls in low income communities. 175 girls trained all spring to prepare for the Mud Run and participate in their first races.

Adventure Running Kids is an Ontario Trillium Foundation funded program that operates races and evening programs for kids aged 6-14 in several southern Ontario communities. The program gets kids running in local trails and forests and also teaches navigation, an essential adventure running skill. This year, the Mud Run raised thousands of dollars to help subsidize both the ARK programs and young athletes who race in adventure running events across the country.
