Since the Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon falls on Valentine’s Day this Sunday, it’s only appropriate that the race incorporates romance along the route of the course.

According to ESPN, a justice of the peace will be on location at mile 10 (approximately 16 kilometres into the race) to perform wedding ceremonies and renew vows.

The race begins at Dodger Stadium, the home of the Los Angeles Dodgers, a professional baseball team, and crosses the city to the finish line at Santa Monica Pier 42.2K later.

Registration is required in advance and according to a race spokeswoman, 53 couples are set to participate, as of Tuesday.

The ceremony is part of a Universal Pictures promotion for the upcoming release of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. A traditional folk dance, a part of a Greek wedding, will be ongoing while couples make a pit stop just before the halfway mark of the race.
