McBride wins 800m at Adidas Boost Boston Games

Brandon McBride, 23, of Windsor, Ont. won the 800m at the Adidas Boost Boston Games which took place Saturday May 19th. The event brings together some of the best in the world to compete at Steinbrenner Stadium in Boston. McBride wasn’t the only Canadian who competed in the event, Corey Bellemore, who is also 23 years old and a Windsor, Ont. native, competed in the mile on Saturday. 

He held the meet record before, now @mcbride46 made it even faster.

Brandon McBride handily won the 800m and broke his own meet record. McBride ran a 1:45.18 800m to best the field by just shy of one second. Marcin Lewandowski of Poland finished second to McBride in 1:46.11. McBride’s mark in Boston is the eleventh fastest time in the world for the 2018 outdoor season.

McBride, who is a 2017 World Championship finalist, ran well already this season, clocking a 1:45.78 in Shanghai at the Diamond League event. There, McBride finished fifth, just ahead of Olympic bronze medalist Clayton Murphy. Coming off a strong 2017, McBride is looking fast as he enters into the thick of his 2018 outdoor season. 

Corey Bellemore ran the mile on Saturday in Boston. Bellemore finished seventh in 4:00.69, just above the famous four-minute mile mark. The beer-mile world record holder recently returned from Doha, where he ran his Diamond League debut.

American Drew Hunter made the mile particularly exciting on Saturday evening. At only 20 years old, Hunter won against a field that included two-time Olympic medalist Nick Willis and two-time World Championship finalist Chris O’Hare. Hunter and O’Hare pulled away from the field, running a 55-second bell lap to finish the race. Hunter’s time is the third fastest in the world this outdoor season.
