12 photos that show off the beauty of the Miami Marathon

See the best that the Miami Marathon had to offer with these select shots from Sunday's race in southeast Florida.

Miami Marathon 2017

An estimated 23,000 runners battled cool and wet conditions during the 15th Miami Marathon on the weekend.

Considered one of North America’s top winter destination races, the Miami Marathon race weekend features a 42K, half-marathon, 5K and kids run. For Canadians, that means this destination race is accessible if you’re feeling the need to make a vacation out of your race plans.

The marathon starts and finishes outside of American Airlines Arena (where the NBA’s Miami Heat play) which is close to the city’s shorelines. An early-morning start means that, assuming weather permits, runners will experience a city landscape featuring the sunrise in the midst of testing mid-winter fitness. The race is one of the first big-city marathons in the United States each year.

On the marathon course, runners cross the bridge to Miami Beach on the mostly-flat and fast route before returning to the downtown core and touring Little Havana and Coconut Grove. Make sure to check out 12 select photos from this past weekend’s event as captured along the 42K route.
