The 2020 Michelob Ultra Night Run is set for October 2 to 4, and while the coronavirus pushed organizers to transition it into a virtual event, it will still be a great race to add to your fall schedule. Participants can choose to race either a 5K or a 10K, and thanks to the race’s virtual format, runners can log their runs wherever and whenever (in the allotted race window, of course) they like, all for a good cause. This year, the Ultra Run is partnered with Food Banks Canada, and race organizers have pledged to donate one meal for every kilometre run.

The Ultra Night Run

Normally, the Ultra Night Run takes place at night (as the name suggests), and there are races held in several cities across Canada, including Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver. To “light the night,” participants are given glow-in-the-dark everything for the race: glow-in-the-dark race shirts, glow-stick bracelets, LED armbands, LED shoe clips and headlights. Even the medals glow in the dark. While this year’s event is virtual and runners don’t have to run at night (although they’re certainly encouraged to if they want), participants will still receive all of these items, plus some bonus swag from the race sponsors.

Anyone interested can register on the event website, and from there you can join the Michelob Ultra Night Run Strava club. On race day, run your 5K or 10K wherever you like (on the track, roads, trails or treadmill) and upload your result to Strava to see where you rank among the other participants.

Helping Food Banks Canada

The thousands of kilometres and subsequent thousands of meals donated to Food Banks Canada will help families in need all across the country. If the race meets its participant capacity of 7,000 runners, at least 35,000 meals will be donated to Food Banks Canada, and that’s if everyone races 5K. Since there will be many runners racing the 10K, the number of meals donated will far surpass 35,000. To learn more about the Michelob Ultra Night Run and to register for the event, click here
