The 5K championships have traditionally been held in Toronto, but no 5K championship was held in 2019. Athletics Canada credits Pan Am Cross Country Cup champion Gen Lalonde (who now lives and trains in Victoria) with the idea to host the race in her native New Brunswick. The 5K course will be located on Moncton’s Assomption Boulevard beside the Petitcodiac River on Sunday morning, September 13. The festival will also feature a half and full marathon on Saturday, September 12.
The 5K championship also includes all masters categories from age 35 up, and is expected to attract masters runners from across Canada.

The 5K is one of Athletics Canada’s four championship road events, the others being the 10K, half-marathon and marathon championships.
