Every New York City Marathon race medal
The New York City Marathon medals, including the one for 2017, are on display at the NYRR Run Centre
On display at the New York Road Runners (NYRR) Run Centre in New York City is the medal (when it was awarded) from every edition of what is now the world’s largest marathon. Beginning in 1970, the New York City Marathon has been run every year with one exception, 2012, when Hurricane Sandy caused the cancellation of the race. (A medal from 2012 was still made, and on display.)
Every finisher of the TCS New York City Marathon receives a race medal as a souvenir. The Run Centre hosts a variety of running-related events and programs and is a central hub for NYRR, the organizers of the marathon, events.
From what was displayed at the Run Centre, it appears that medals were first given out in the late seventies and onwards.
