Ontario’s Georgina Spring Fling weekend offers early Boston qual opportunity
Can't make it to Georgina this weekend? There's another marathon this fall
This weekend is the Georgina Spring Fling Marathon on Ontario’s beautiful Lake Simcoe. New for this spring, the event will host a full marathon (so you can nail an early Boston qualification), along with a half-marathon, plus 10K and 5K races. “For our second annual spring race, we will have about 700 runners on the course,” says co-race director Sandie Orlando. “Our Georgina races are becoming known for the fast, flat and scenic course and a festive venue at De La Salle Park.”
Fun for the whole family
This year, the event invites runners and their families to join them at The Briars Resort and Spa after the race for the Spring Fling Explore Georgina Festival and a Kids’ 1k Fun Trail Run.
Conveniently located just one hour north of Toronto, the race unfolds along the beautiful Lake Drive, and is easily accessible from anywhere in the GTA, so encourage your friends and family to come watch and then enjoy the festival afterward.
The Georgina Marathon launched during the pandemic, amid much uncertainty, by co-race directors Sandie Orlando and Cindy Lewis-Caballero. The gamble paid off, with the race being certified as a Boston qualifier and attracting hundreds of people from across the region, hungry to race in person after a series of lockdowns.
A second marathon in September
The Georgina course is known for being fast, and it’s Athletics Canada-certified, making it an ideal marathon course to set a personal best or qualify for a world major. If this sounds up your alley, there’s a second running of the marathon this fall. The Georgina Marathon, Half and 5K will run Sept. 10, 2023.
Beyond providing an excellent race course, part of your entry will go toward charities supported by both races: Georgina Community Food Pantry and Sandgate Women’s Shelter.
