Canadian Race Guide: June 7-8

It’s another busy weekend of running and racing and here from the Canadian Race Guide are but a few of the weekend’s note-worthy upcoming events.

Saturday June 7: Whistler Half Marathon, Whistler, B.C. One of Canada’s most scenic and aesthetically-pleasing running events is the Whistler Half Marathon and 10K.  The event which is proudly sponsored by The North Face, offers spectacular mountain views in addition to top-notch organization and popular post-race festivities. The event does sell out so be sure to secure your spot early.

Saturday June 7: Ladiesfest 8K, Lethbridge, Alta. A popular women’s event that aims to promote women’s health, fitness and well-being. The race takes place from the Lethbridge Lodge Hotel and Conference Centre in Alberta. Participants can expect a scenic course, decadent chocolates, fresh flowers and so much more.

Saturday June 7: Moon in June Road Race, Burlington, Ont. The 23rd annual edition of the event takes place in downtown Burlington, just outside the greater Toronto area, this fast and flat 10K and 5K event begins at dusk (9:00 p.m.) and ends in the growing darkness. A post-race party follows in the Civic Square near City Hall.

Sunday June 8: Bridge City Boogie, Saskatoon, Sask. Saskatchewan’s largest running event takes place in Prairieland and Diefenbaker Park and offers a fast and friendly 10K and 5K. Participants, family and friends are then invited to attend Boogie Fest featuring plenty of refreshments and entertainment.

Sunday June 8: Fallen 4 Marathon, Whitecourt, Alta. A charitable event which honours four RCMP officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2005. The marathon begins at Fallen Four Memorial Park in Mayerthorpe and ends in Whitecourt. A four- and two-person relay option and fun 5K are also offered.

Sunday June 8: Bread and Honey Races, Mississauga, Ont. Now celebrating 36 years, this well-organized event is a popular part of the Bread and Honey Festival taking place the quaint communityof Streetsville which lies within the larger region of Mississauga. The 15K and 5K races are run on flat, fast and certified courses which attract a competitive field. Following the races, a generous post-race buffet, awards ceremony and plenty of draw prizes are offered in the local high school.
