Could this be Canada’s toughest marathon? MEC Ottawa hopes so.

MECOttawaMarathonOn Saturday, Nov 1, Mountain Equipment Co-op Ottawa is set to host the marathon and half-marathon event which they feel has been missing from the Ottawa-Gatineau running scene for too long; a complete loop of Gatineau Park.

MEC Ottawa’s seventh and final race of the 2014 running season will offer two very hilly options, 21.1K or 42.2K of perfect pavement with gruelling altitude gains and awesome descents to match. In addition, they are also hosting a unique Fortune Fell Race, which is a 2K event that features 100m up and 100m straight back down!

Marathon organizers and runners usually lean towards easier, flatter courses well-suited for quick times. Few events wish to claim the title of “Canada’s toughest marathon,” but MEC Ottawa would be happy to have it.

What this event is offering is definitely a top contender for the toughest marathon around. It may not be the fastest course, but it’s clearly and uniquely challenging and takes place in a beautiful park at one of the best times of the year.

MEC is inviting runners of all abilities to test their legs and their lungs at the MEC Ottawa Marathon in Gatineau Park.
