Alan Webb has ended his career as a track and field athlete with the conclusion of the 2014 indoor season.

With the end of Webb’s career, the United States Track and Field Association has released a mini documentary, “The Alan Webb Story,” about his racing career and the influence he had on the sport, which has been significant.

Webb has been an American middle distance running star since his high school career when he first broke the American high school indoor mile record, becoming the first high school student in the U.S. to run a sub-four mile. He followed this up a few months later outdoors by racing to a 3:53.26 to shatter Jim Ryun’s national high-school record and cement himself as one of the best milers in the country.

He won his first national 1500m title in 2004 to make the U.S. Olympic team, and has been a professional icon in the sport since.

You can watch the video here.

With the conclusion of Webb’s track and field career he moves to training for the triathlon.
