Run Calgary to take over Mother’s Day run for 2019

The popular Mother's Day event has announced some exciting changes for 2019

The Sport Chek Mother’s Day Run, Walk and Ride has been a Mother’s Day tradition in Calgary for more than 40 years, and today it announced a new partnership with Run Calgary, organizers of the Calgary Marathon, at an event at the Sport Chek Women store at CF Chinook Centre. Olympian Brittany Schussler (speed skating) and Olympic medallists Kristina Groves (speed skating) and Chandra Crawford (cross-country skiing) were on hand to celebrate the importance of physical activity in family life.

The race will continue to start and finish at the CF Chinook Centre and to raise funds for its two partner charities, the Calgary Health Trust NICU and the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program.

Schussler is National Community Manager at FGL Sports (parent company to Sport Chek and various national sports retailers), which works with Jumpstart to help engage Canadian kids from around the country to get involved in sports and activities.

Valerie Ball, Director of Communications at the Calgary Health Trust NICU, was also on hand to share the race’s impact and what it has meant for the families served by the organization.

The event will kick off in May with five days of package pickup at the Sport Chek Women’s store, and participants will be treated to celebrity mom talks, some pampering and other fun surprises.

Calgary’s premier race organization, Run Calgary is the not-for-profit behind Calgary’s
most international bank (Scotiabank), which has contributed on average some $50 million annually over the last five years to community causes around the world.
