Challenge yourself this fall and sign up for the virtual Under Armour Eastside 10K. You can run the distance anytime during September, and it’s for a great cause – the charity KidSport, whose goal is to remove the financial barriers that make it difficult or impossible for some kids to play organized sports. (You’ll also earn some great Under Armour swag for your efforts.)

The UA Eastside 10K offers a 10K and additional options. You can choose to register for the 10K, 5K, 1K Kids Race or The Vancouver Special Challenge (which involves running both the 5K and 10K distances). After registration, you can run your race virtually and record your result between Sept. 1st and Sept. 30. Having the flexibility of choosing when and where you want to run makes this the perfect race to keep you motivated into the fall.

KidSport charity was launched as a way to help address the challenges faced by many families when registering their children in organized sport. From a modest start, KidSport has grown exponentially and has become a truly national entity, reaching 11 provincial/territorial programs and over 180 community-based programs across the country. Founded from humble beginnings in BC, KidSport gave $2.1 million in grants to 7,300 kids in 2019.

Another institution the race will be supporting is Streetfront Alternative Education – a Vancouver-based alternative education program based out of Britannia Secondary School, approaching education with an emphasis on physical activities and outdoor experiences.

On Sept. 18, Eastside 10K organizers will be holding a group run with the youth program at Streetfront. The only rule is, you must be registered for the virtual race to participate in the group run. Once registered for the virtual race, you will receive an email with an access code to sign up. This allows runners to run their race alongside others in the Vancouver community. Local government guidelines regarding running outdoors will be followed to ensure safety in the community.
